Juana Martínez Quintero is a Senior Associate at Adell & Merizalde. She has focused her practice on international investment and commercial arbitration, representing States and private parties before a wide range of institutions. Her practice has focused on the infrastructure, oil & gas, mining, energy, and public–private partnership sectors. Juana also currently serves as Secretary to the President of an arbitral tribunal in an ICSID case, giving her unique insight into the tribunal’s perspective and decision-making process.
Before joining Adell & Merizalde, Juana was an expert and Head of Investment Arbitration at Colombia’s National Agency for Legal Defense of the State, where she represented Colombia in multiple investment treaty arbitrations totaling over US$12 billion in claims. Prior to that, Juana served as the head of regulatory affairs for a multinational company in Colombia, specializing in the oil & gas, transportation, and import and export sectors.
Juana also worked as an Associate at an international top-tier firm, advising multinational corporations and State entities in high-stakes ICC and UNCITRAL arbitrations. She previously served as Assistant Legal Counsel at the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague and as a legal extern at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) in Washington, D.C.
She holds an LL.M. from Columbia Law School, where she was a James Kent Scholar and received the Parker School Recognition in International and Comparative Law. She has taught international arbitration and investment law at Universidad de los Andes and is admitted to practice in Colombia.
